Robert W. Ruff, 86, of South Bend passed away on Thursday December 26th at 3:28 PM in his residence with his loving family by his bedside. Robert was born on September 17, 1927 in South Bend to the late Edwin C. Ruff and Mary L. (Ketchum) Ruff. He has been a resident here since 1968 coming from Bremen, IN. On October 20, 1967 in Muncie, IN. he married the former Joan E. Driscoll, who survives. Mr. Ruff was a professor for 30 years and worked at Ivy Tech State College in South Bend. Robert is also survived by three daughters; Rachel (Mark) Syska of PA., Mary (Todd) Troup of Indianapolis, IN., and Deborah (Kevin) Dobecki of South Bend, one son; Timothy (Susan) Duke of South Bend, one brother; Donald E. (Pat) Ruff of Osceola, IN. Also ten grandchildren, and ten great- grandchildren survive whom he cherished. He was preceded in death by one sister; Wilma J. Patrick in 1992, and one brother; Eldon E. Ruff on November 27, 2002. Robert enjoyed woodworking, flowers, gardening, caring for his rental properties, and being with family. Visitation will be held Thursday January 2nd from 4:00 PM a€" 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home located at 23421 State Road 23/ West Ireland Road South Bend. Services will be Friday January 3rd at 11:00 AM at Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church with Pastor Ernie Troxell officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to service time at the church. Burial is to follow at Union Cemetery in Windsor, IN. The family requests all memorial contributions be made to Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, located at 24535 Roosevelt Road South Bend, IN 46614.
