Norman G. McKillip, 74, of South Bend passed away on Wednesday April 9th at 5:25 AM in his residence after an extended illness, with his loving family at his bedside.

Norman was born on February 8, 1940 in South Bend to Kenneth G. and Adeline E. (Wantucki) McKillip.

On February 22, 1964 in South Bend he married the former Gerry L. Cowen, who survives. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. McKillip retired from the South Bend Fire Department in 1994 after 26 years of service.

Norman is also survived by two daughters; Marina J. Zolman (Jon Emery) of South Bend, and Wendy L. Longest (and long time friend John Arce) of Sturgis, MI.,  three sons; Allen J. (Rita) McKillip of Lake Villa, Kenneth G. McKillip of Waxhall, NC., and David B. (Sandra)Smith of St. Cloud, MN., and one brother; Richard L. McKillip of Arizona. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished.

Norman was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was very proud to have served his country.

He will be dearly missed by his loving family, numerous friends, and his co-workers he made during his life journey.

There will be no visitation or services. Norman’s wishes were to be cremated and his loving family has honored those wishes. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park at a later date.

Gerry I'm so very sorry to read about Norm. You two had 50 years together, not to many people can say that! He was such a quiet man but very funny & really nice to all of us in our Bunko group. God be with you and your family.

So sorry to hear of his passing. I remember from my early days at the SBFD. He was always very nice to me. He will be missed.
