Shirley Carter, 75, of South Bend passed away on Saturday July 26th at 6:20 PM at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend after an extended illness.

She was born on October 23, 1938 in South Bend to the late Harry and Elsie (Scott) Reid.

Shirley graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting; she worked as a Tax Consultant. 

Shirley is survived by one daughter; Norma J. (Jim) Clark of South Bend, two sisters; Maxine Taylor of Irving, TX. and Nadine (LeVar) Johnson of Elkhart, IN, one sister-in-law; Nancy Reid of South Bend, one aunt; Geraldine Scott of Elkhart, IN, two grandchildren; Jordan C. and Jennessa E. Clark, both of South Bend, and seventeen nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters; Betty Spann, Norma Blanchard, and Mary Johnson, one brother; Harry Reid, Jr., two nephews; Jon Reid and Roderick Reid, and her former husband; John Carter.

Shirley loved bingo, Notre Dame Football, Blue Chip Casino, and spending time with her family and grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished. She was also a member of New Generations Christian Ministries. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, her church family, and numerous friends she made during her life journey.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday August 7th at 12:00 PM at New Generations Christian Ministries, located at 431 S. Summit Dr. South Bend, IN. 46619, with Pastor Calvin Mason, Sr. officiating. Shirley’s wishes were to be cremated and her loving family has honored those wishes. Cremation has taken place.

The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to Healthwin Activity Department, located at 20531 Darden Road South Bend, IN 46637.  or The American Heart Association of Northern Indiana, located at 6100 W. 96th St. Suite 200 Indianapolis, IN. 46278.
