Rebecca “Becky” Cooper, 71, of New Carlisle passed away Tuesday September 15th at Hospice House, South Bend after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Becky was born on December 16, 1943 in South Bend, IN to the late Donald D. and Pearle B. (Kelver) Stroup.

On August 5, 1961 in South Bend she married Dean J. Cooper who survives.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her son Darren D. Cooper on July 14, 1998, her sister Belinda M. Carlin on June 22, 2014 and her brother Bruce A. Stroup on May 22, 2009.

She worked for many years as a Cosmetologist in the South Bend area.

Becky liked Native American ways, she enjoyed going to the Casino, cooking and traveling with her husband Dean.  She made numerous friends throughout her life with her warm and outgoing personality.

God grant me the serenity to

accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the

things I can, and the wisdom

                    to know the difference.

My heart hurt when I got the news of Becky's passing. Although, I felt so much pain, I also felt happiness that she is finally united with Darren again after so many years of missing him. And, although it has not been near as long for Belinda, she is with her again as well. I have this vision of them in Heaven holding hands, walking and her catching Darren up on everything that has happened over the years that Belinda hasn't already told him. I can see the smiles on all three of their faces, because that is what I will always remember about them..those beautiful smiles. Dean and family, my heart goes out to you. May ALL of the wonderful memories that you cherish keep you strong and knowing that one day you will be with them again in the house of the Lord. I love you guys. She was a VERY special lady to all of us. She will be deeply missed my family and me and thought about often.

The thing I remember most about Becky is how caring she was. Despite the loss of her only son, every time we got together, which was usually once a year, the first thing she asked was how were my boys were doing, and how the grandkids were doing. And Heaven help me if I didn't bring any current pictures! And it came from the heart, for she truly cared about others.

We were so blessed to have this very special lady in our lives. She will be missed.

Dean and family, Becky was a ray of sunshine on this earth. I was only a small part of your family years ago and then got to spend some time with her at my own family's gatherings in the neighborhood over the years. She always looked for the best in others. She was someone we could all look up to. God Bless you all at this time, my prayers are with you for strength in your loss and joy in your remembering. With Love, Mary Ellen
