Melba V. Martin, 91 of Mishawaka passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Southfield Village, South Bend.

She was born on September 22, 1926 in Leighton, AL to the late Melvin D. and Geraldine J. (Jones) Atchley.

On April 10, 1944 in Sheffield, AL she married Broadus B. Martin who preceded her in death on January 1, 2006.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela B. Phillips and a grandson, David L. Weldy in 1987.

Melba is survived by a son-in-law, Jim Phillips (Pamela B. Phillips) of Henderson County, NV and two grandsons, John D. (Michelle) Weldy of Indianapolis, IN and Timothy R. (Ruth) Weldy of Bristol, IN.

She moved to the Michiana area in 1944 coming from Florence, AL.  Melba retired in 1996 from Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend after many years of service as their Secretary. 

She was member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Mishawaka where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing with the ensembles and the Church Choir.  Melba also enjoyed cooking and loved to entertain guests with her southern home recipes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27th at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 59220 Bremen Hwy, Mishawaka.  Friends may visit one hour prior to service at the church.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 59220 Bremen Hwy., Mishawaka, IN 46544 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Today, I learned that your family is mourning the loss of your beloved Melba. Please accept my condolences and be assured that almighty God is certainly aware of your painful feelings. Melba was a wonderful servant of the Lord. She was always helpful and very friendly as a secretary and friend at Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend.

I'm looking forward to seeing Melba again in heaven this time.

Melba was one special lady and friend of many. She was one of GODS special servants.Till we meet again in Heaven.
