Juanita (Pete) J. Bouse, of Walkerton, passed away on January 28, 2021, at St. Joseph Regional Hospital, Plymouth, Indiana, after a valiant battle with COVID-19. Her husband was beside her at the time of her death. She was born on May 27, 1929, in North Liberty, Indiana, to Arbia and Dorothy Gardner. She is survived by her husband, Bill, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. Her siblings were Madeline (Paul) Aldrich, Maxine (Charles) Hayes, Audrey (Glenn) Mattocks, Elaine (Roy) Wolf, Wava “Jane” (Mike) Norris, Dorothy (Ernie) Morris, Arbie J. “Buck” (Helen) Gardner and Robert “Bobby” Gardner.
Juanita was married to William “Bill” Bouse on August 10, 1946, and they were to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary this summer. Juanita enjoyed country music, a good joke, and playing cards with friends which earned her the nickname of “Poker Pete” . She was an outstanding league bowler and bowled for over 50 years. She and Bill owned the Walkerton Bowling Alley, along with their friends, Bob and Phyllis Lute, in the 1950’s-1960’s. She loved traveling with her husband, and in her later years, she enjoyed an occasional trip to the casinos and buffets!
Juanita enjoyed life and being surrounded by many of her and Bill’s nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was always available to listen and share advice. She had a very close connection to her special friend, Alyssa (De Myer) Summers.
Juanita contributed to the war effort by working at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant during WWII, while her future husband fought as a Marine in the Pacific. They met shortly after Bill returned home and began their life together in Walkerton. Both were life-long area residents. She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for later this Spring.
