Evelyn L. (Mathews) Kovach, 91, of South Bend, passed away in the early afternoon on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Evelyn was born on February 19, 1933, in Frederick, Maryland, to the late Russell M. and Lucille (Titus) Mathews. She moved to South Bend and remained a lifelong resident to the area. On March 4, 1984, in South Bend, she married Joseph Kovach. They shared 23 years of marriage until his passing in 2007. Evelyn was a wonderful homemaker. She loved spending time with her family and especially with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards in her spare time.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Donna L. (William) Ricker of Mishawaka, Leonard R. (Cheryl) Jobe, Jr., of South Bend and Brian K. (Linda) Jobe of St. Petersburg, FL, and by six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Jane (Richard) Warrenfeltz, and by her brother, Bobby Mathews both of Keymar, MD. Along with her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by seven brothers.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday March 4th, from 10:00am until Service time in the Hanely and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 State Rd. 23, South Bend. A service celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held at 11:00am in the funeral home with Pastor Dave Abbott of St. Paul Memorial Church officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Sumption Prairie Cemetery of South Bend.
