Gary Clevenger Obituary

        

Gary M. Clevenger, 85, of Mishawaka, passed away on Thursday, January 25th in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of Mishawaka.

Gary was born in Alma, Michigan on July 27, 1938 to Melvin C. and Grace M. (Hamlin) Clevenger. Gary moved to the Michiana area in 1960. He worked retail management for 20 years, was with William Penn Insurance for 3 years and then went on to serve as a CNA retiring from St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka after 17 years. Gary enjoyed traveling to the Gulf Coast and taking trips to Europe, Germany, France and England to name a few. He loved to cook and bake, soups breads and Hungarian Goulash, were his favorites. He had a great passion for music. He loved to sing and play (banjo, mandolin) in jam sessions and at Music Festivals. His love for the outdoors knew no bounds, from gardening to taking long hikes at Potato Creek State Park. Gary was an active member of the Greene Township Lions Club for the past 20 years and also an active member of North Liberty Church of the Brethren.  On July 24, 2001, he married Pat L. Edison Sriver, who survives.

Along with his wife, Pat, Gary is also survived by his son, Gary Lynn (Cyndie) Clevenger of Mishawaka and his son-in-law, Tim Baughman of Bremen, IN.  He was the stepfather of three, Todd (Stephanie) Sriver, Scott (Tracy) Sriver, and Ryan (Andrea) Sriver. He was the proud grandfather of 4, step-grandfather of 7, great grandfather of 1 and step-great grandfather of 1. Gary is also survived by his brothers, David (Charlene) Clevenger of Michigan/Alabama and Daniel Clevenger of Alma, MI. Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori A Baughman in 2023, son Scott H. Clevenger in 2018, his parents, and a brother Ronald Clevenger in 2012.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, February 1st at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 SR 23, South Bend, from 4:00 until 8:00PM, and for one hour prior to the service in the church on Friday. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 2nd at 11:00am in the North Liberty Church of the Brethren, 201 E. Market St., North Liberty, with Pastor Travis Hartman. He will be laid to rest in the Sumption Prairie Cemetery of South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s name to any of the following charities: Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, Greene Township Lions Club, or to the North Liberty Church of the Brethren.
