Dennis E. Swathwood Sr., 75, of South Bend passed away on February 11th at Hospice House of St. Joseph County with his loving family at his bedside.

Mr. Swathwood was born on August 16, 1938 in South Bend to Charles W. and Ruby M. (Buck) Swathwood.On September 27, 1980 in South Bend he married the former Linda L. Bellinger, who survives.

Dennis retired from N.I.S.D.C. after many years of service.

Dennis is survived by his wife, two sons; Dennis E. (Connie) Swathwood, Jr. and Scott M. Hensley of South Bend, one sister; Jeanne Blausey of Oak Harbor, OH, and one brother Charles “Bud” (Donna) Swathwood of Elkhart. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Cheryl D. Harris on November 29, 2013.

Dennis was a veteran of the United State Army and was proud to have served his country.

Dennis loved college and pro football, including the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame football, and all sports as well. He also enjoyed fishing and doing yard work.

Visitation hours will be Friday February 14th from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel” located at 1216 Roosevelt Rd. Walkerton, IN. 46574. Services will be Saturday February 15th at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Ervin Mize officiating. Burial is to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton, IN.

The family requests all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel” handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Swathwood family.

I wish to express my sympathy to the Swathwood family for their loss. Having recently experienced a loss in my family, I know times can be tough. Keep the faith The Lord will see you through.
