Maryann C. Schuster, 68, of South Bend died of natural causes on Wednesday April 16th in her residence.  She was born on November 5, 1945 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Frenzel) Schuster and was a lifelong Indiana resident.  She graduated from Andrean High School in Merrillville, IN and Calumet College of St. Joseph.  She began her career as an elementary school teacher in Chicago.  She moved to South Bend in 1976 and because of an interest in the welfare of children, she eventually pursued a career in social work, concentrating in early childhood.  She worked in the Head Start program for several years and most recently for the St. Joseph County Domestic Relations Counseling Bureau until her recent retirement in 2011.  Maryann was known for her plainspoken manner, her banana-split cake, and above all, her love of all dogs, but most especially beagles.  Everyone who knew Maryann knew about her enthusiasm for her beloved “weegs,” who brought great joy to her life.  Mary was preceded in death by her brother, John C. “Jack” Schuster of South Bend, and is survived by a niece Nicole Schuster (Gabriel Hawkins) of Indianapolis, a great niece Anna, great nephew Jack, and nephew, John C. Schuster, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY.  She also had cherished friends whom she regarded as family, Brook and Allison Middlebrook, of Walkerton, and their sons Nathan and Maxwell.  Arrangements will be private.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Donations in her memory can be made to Pet Refuge located at 4626 S Burnett Dr, South Bend, IN 46614.
