Paul H. Read, 98, of South Bend passed away on Tuesday February 3rd at 8:55 AM in   his residence after an extended illness.                       

He was born on July 1, 1916 in Fort Wayne, IN. to Dr. Daniel B. and Jessie (Strickland) Read. He has resided in South Bend since 1966, coming from Fort Wayne.

Paul worked for General Electric and the Department of Defense, and also attended Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne.

He is survived by long-time companion; Mildred Ryan, one daughter; Lisa A. Ryan of South Bend, and six sons; Paul D. (Sarah) Read of South Bend, John Read of Kingsport, IN, Charles Read of Panama City, FL, and Michael, David, and Scott Ryan, all of South Bend. Paul will also be missed by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Jessie Read.

Mr. Read served in the U.S. Army during WWII on the European Front and earned a Purple Hear and Bronze Star. He also played the organ at various local night clubs, including Walt’s Restaurant where he was the house musician for years. He also played at the Holiday Inn North, Diamond Harbor Inn, and Silver Tower Restaurant in South Bend.

Paul will be dearly missed by his loving family and numerous friends he made during his life journey.

Friends and family are invited to A Celebration of Paul’s Life at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 7th at Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club located at 26230 Southport Drive, South Bend, IN 46628.

The family requests all memorial contributions be made to the Military Honor Park, PO Box 3356, South Bend, IN 46619.

A great organ player. It was a great joy to hear him, no matter where he was !!. At my mother"s 90th birthday party, his music made the party a great success. A great, great man !! Ellen Murat
