She was born on September 15, 1926 in Leesburg, IN to Carl D. and Eva (Ames) Harman.

On November 24, 1945 in South Bend as the former Eleanor Harman, she was united in marriage to the late John A. Ort, who preceded her in death on May 18th, 2002.

Mrs. Ort is survived by her three children; Gary E. (Sandy) Ort and Hal W. (Linda) Ort), both of South Bend, daughter Laura Lee (Ken) Bogucki of South Bend, and one brother; Keith (Jean) Harman. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Edward (Bridget) Ort of South Bend, Jeffrey (Chris) Ort of South Bend, Tamara (Herm) Freitag, III of South Bend, and Tricia (Brad) Rosendaul of Indianapolis, IN, and six great grandchildren that she adored; John, Carlyle, Mallorie, Megan, Liam, and Finn.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband John and one brother; Tom C. Harman.

Eleanor moved to the Greene Township area when her father became principal at Greene Township School. She graduated from there and then she married John Ort. She lived at the same address on the family farm for over 70 years. She went to work for the former Associates Co, Great Lakes Foundry, Wymans, and retired from Lincoln Financial Group. She was a member of the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church and was also a Sunday School Teacher. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and was a fan of The Chicago Bulls and Chicago Cubs. The family wants to thank her two home care nurses Rhonda and Mary for their devoted care to their mother; she really looked forward to them being with her.

Visitation will be Thursday April 9th from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons “Southwest Chapel Funeral Home” located at 23421 State Road 23 / West Ireland Road South Bend. Condolences to Eleanor's family from one of her many Harman cousins. My father was Rulo Harman, one of the brothers of Carl. There were 3 daughters in our family. Gloria and I are still living, Juanita died about ten years ago. We saw Eleanor and Eva at a Blueberry Festival here in Plymouth back several years ago. I do remember Gloria and I stopped at Eleanor & Johnny's (my mom always called him that) 50th wedding anniversary celebration and surprised her big time! Her picture was lovely, exactly how I remember her. Suzie

My prayers are with the Ort family at this time. I met Eleanor at Lincoln and thoroughly enjoyed working with her there. I took my two children out to her home to see the dairy farm. I did not know she had lived in her home for 70 years! Eleanor was a great lady and will be missed.

Eleanor worked for me while at Lincoln National. She was very professional in everything she did and a real joy to be around. She was every part of the family that was at Lincoln! What a special lady! I took my kids out to her farm which was a real treat!
My prayers for the family.
