Terrance “Terry” L. Overmyer, 89, of South Bend passed away on March 12th at Southfield Village, Inc., South Bend with his family by his side.

He was born on September 3, 1926 in South Bend, IN to the late Harry B. and Leona M. (Wilkening) Overmyer.

In December 1945 he married Joyce (Batchelor) Overmyer and she passed away in 2004.  On April 1, 1973 in South Bend he married the former Ada Lucille Miller who survives.

Terry is also survived his children, John Michael (Pam) Overmyer of South Bend, IN, Col. (ret) Robert W. (Aida) Cerney of Leesburg, GA, Rebecca S. (Dave) Tuttle of Indianapolis, IN and Barbara L. (Greg) Stalker of Three Rivers, MI; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his brother Ted J. Overmyer.

Terry proudly served his country in U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1947, receiving an American Area Victory Medal during his combat tour in the Caribbean Sea.  He was stationed on the USS PC 1199 and the Franklin D. Roosevelt CVB 42.  He retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company, where he worked from August 1949 to September 1986, as a Serviceman and Customer Service Supervisor.

Terry was member of the Southlawn United Methodist Church, Good Sam’s RV Club and member of the Board of Trustees for Ridgedale Men’s Club.  He also was a member of the Trailer Club from 1983 to 2005.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and going camping.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Rd. 23/W. Ireland Road, South Bend.  Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 17th at the funeral home with Pastor Darrel Weaver officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Mishawaka.

The family request memorial contributions be made to Camp Millhouse, 25600 Kelly Road, South Bend, IN 46614 or Southlawn United Methodist Church, 60756 US 31 South, South Bend, IN 46614.
