Donald L. Sears, 84 of South Bend passed away on Wednesday, November 30th at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

He was born in South Bend on October 31, 1932.  On September 19, 1955, he married Janet Wiley who preceded him in death on July 10, 2010.  He was also preceded in death by his father, Leo Sears and sister Helen Sears.

Don worked for Bendix Corp. for many years as a Set-up Operator retiring in 1988.

He is survived by three daughters, Lucy Sears of South Bend, Donna (Bryan) Chordash of Winter Springs, FL and Nancy (Dean) Belcher of Forsyth, IL; three sons, Alan (Anne) Sears, Bruce Sears both of South Bend and Thomas Sears of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956.  He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, watching sports and was a huge Cubs Fan.  He was a gracious man always willing to help his neighbors and family.  He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him during his life journey.

Friends may gather to visit with Don’s family on Sunday, December 4th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Road 23/W. Ireland Road, South Bend.  A Memorial Service will follow at 5:00 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Keith Koteskey officiating.

A private burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Bishop Crowley Fund at St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613.

The HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home handled arrangements, services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Sears family.

Please except my sincere sympathy for the loss of your father. I spent many nights at his home as a child. He will surely be missed by all. I will always remember what a huge Cubs fan he was.
