Cheryl Annette Rizek, age 75, passed away peacefully January 17, 2017 due to an extended illness.  She was born July 18, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana to Phillip Heim and Florence Coppens. She married the love of her life, Jack Wayne Rizek, in March of 1960 who survives her. They have three children, John (Alice) Rizek, Kimberly (Greg) Georgiefski, and Jeff Rizek, seven grandchildren: Jeremiah (Dawn) Rizek, Joshua (Amy) Rizek, Ashley Stahly, Austin (Brandi) Stahly, Amanda Chambers, Jasmine Rizek and Jacob Rizek. They are also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Jayce, Jasiah and Paxton Rizek with two more currently on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis (Larry) Tuholski, and three brothers, Phil “Denny” Heim, Jim (Teresa) Coppens and Bud (Barb) Hough.

She was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren; never missing a game, school event or chance to make pancakes for all, while keeping score of who could eat the most.

She was active in the community as a two term Mayor of Walkerton, member of the Walkerton Business Women and working on numerous committees at the Walkerton United Methodist Church. She did find time for an occasional card game.

Cheryl had the gift for telling a joke which she shared with her brother Phil. She lovingly reminded her family of the motto she followed “Don’t sweat the small stuff”.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel” located at 1216 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton.  Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 21st at Walkerton United Methodist Church located at 1000 Georgia Street, Walkerton with Pastor Perry Richards officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.

In lieu of memorial contributions, Cheryl’s family asks that you spend time with your children, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones and make a toast to enduring friendships. That is what Cheryl would wish for you.

The HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Rizek family.
