Jolanta Szumial, 72 of South Bend, passed away on Friday, November 22 at Memorial Hospital following an illness.

Jolanta was born on July 21, 1947 in Germany to the late Stefan and Kazmiera (Wesolek) Szumial. She has resided in the Michiana area most of her life.  She is survived by her sister, Stephanie (Thomas) Mammon, brother, Ben W. Szumial both of South Bend, her nephew, Mark C. (Becky) Mammon, niece, Brooke (Eric) Babendrager and great nephews and nieces, Andrew, Max, Michael, Emma Mammon, Liam, Noelle and Willow Babendrager and other relatives in Poland and Australia.

Jolanta retired as an Administrative Assistant at St. Mary’s College. Her joys in life were praying, being with her family, always helping others and being an active member at Corpus Christi Catholic Church and Alter and Rosary Society.

Jolanta lived and died with the Lord in her beloved blessed mother. She was deeply devoted to her family, Polish tratitions and God. This is the best tribute anyone would hope for, we loved her more than ever she knew, or that we ever knew.

Jolanta wishes were to be cremated, which her loving family honored. There will be Memorial Mass  at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 25th at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN. Presiding will be Father Daryl Rybicki.

Hanley and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to Jolanta family.

Jolanta was a high school classmate and even though we did not see one another for a long time, we were getting reacquainted through Corpus Christi and the Altar and Rosary Society. Please accept my sympathy, love and prayers. God bless Jolanta and her family during this sad time. May she Rest In Peace.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Jolanta. The world was much better for having her in it. God blessed us with her presence. I worked with Jolanta at Saint Mary's and kept in touch over the years since then. She was Christ's presence here on earth. Your hearts may be full of sorrow at her passing, but she is with her Lord.

Blessings to Yolanta's family. Years ago we had lunch together once a week, but lost track of each other, probably my fault.
A sweet lady will be welcomed into Heaven.

It was a pleasure talking with you today, Stephanie. Jolanta was on our trip to Medjugorje in 2016. We developed a loving relationship. We did get together once in a while for lunch. I wish it could have been more. She & I went to Michael Nolan's rosary on Mondays. I know the Blessed Mother will cradle her in her arms in love.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about Jolanta's passing. We worked together at Saint Mary's College and I remember what a funny and kind person she was. I would often come by her department when she had a problem with her web page, and I think we spent more time laughing at silly stuff than actually working. She was a really bright spot in my day when I would see her on campus. I have very good memories of Jolanta. My condolences go out to her family, as I am sure she is greatly missed...

Jolanta took several of my classes at Saint Mary's. I was always touched by her love of learning, her joy in her family, and her deep knowledge of Polish traditions. I am sorry for your loss, het we know she is with God and all those she loves.
