Albert DeRoo Obituary

Albert E. DeRoo, 90, of Granger, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Brickyard Health Care from an extended illness.

Albert was born on May 27, 1932, in Mishawaka, to the late Lawrence and Catherine (Erbe) DeRoo.   On June 1, 1952, in Cassopolis, Michigan, he married Elizabeth (Sorocco) DeRoo.  They celebrated 68 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on July 13, 2020.  Albert proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.  He retired after 40 years of service with the South Bend Police Department, where he obtained the rank of Detective Sergeant.  Albert loved being a police officer and enjoyed telling his stories of police work.  He was also a member of FOP Lodge #36.  Albert was an avid Notre Dame football and basketball fan and he worked security for many games.  All that knew Albert, knew him as a jokester.

Albert is survived by his three daughters, Kathleen Ann (Greg) Towner of Granger, Susan M. (David) Hagen of Cape Coral, FL and Elizabeth L. DeRoo of Granger; and his four loving grandchildren, Lisa Farrell, Michelle Rogers, Michael Towner, and Philip Rogers; and five great-grandchildren.
