Alex W. Filer

Alex W. Filer, 32, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 in his home. 

Alex was born on April 25,1990 in Petrozavodsk, Russia. He was adopted by Albert David and Elizabeth A. (Lombardi) Filer, III.  Alex moved to the area in 1998.  On August 11, 2016, he married Jessica R. (Manchester) Filer in Peru, Indiana.  Alex was a proud father to their son, Lincoln A. Filer. 

Alex was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed taking long hikes, kayaking, and being challenged with rock climbing.  He was athletic and liked running in marathons and wrestling.  Alex had an artistic side of him and enjoyed painting and doing wood carvings.  Alex found his true happiness spending time with his loving family.  Alex was a member of the Indiana DNR and the Hoosier Herpetological Society.

Alex is survived by his wife, Jessica R. (Manchester) Filer of South Bend, a son, Lincoln A. Filer of South Bend, his parents, Albert David and Elizabeth (Lombardi) Filer, III of Bristol, IN.  He is also survived by his sisters, Elena (Jason) Riley of Bristol, Marina E. Filer of Elkhart, and Amiee Newman of Oklahoma City, OK, and by his brothers, Albert David (Pam) Filer, IV of South Bend and Edward L. (Dedee) Filer of Chicago, IL.      

Alex’s family is following his wishes to be cremated.  There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol, IN 46507 with Fr. Bob Van Kempem officiating.  A Celebration of Alex’s life will follow service.
