Arleine Juanita Demien

Arleine Juanita Demien, 95, of South Bend, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side, on the morning of Tuesday, May 20th.

Arleine was born in South Bend to Leslie Jacob and Mary (Lesinski) Herron on June 15, 1929. She graduated from Riley High School as a member of the Class of 1947. She went on to attend classes at the Indiana Business College and Indiana University of South Bend. On August 28, 1965, in South Bend, she married the love of her life, Clarence J. Demien. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1998. She was an Executive Administrator for many years at the University of Notre Dame. Arleine was a gifted musician, playing the organ and piano for the church, where she shared her lovely singing voice. She was even able to share her voice at the Vatican. She was amazingly computer savvy, being known to spend long nights surfing the web. Arleine was the “neighborhood grandma”. The kindness and generosity shown to everyone she met exemplified her loving nature. She loved to garden and was known for her beautiful roses. Yet her greatest joy came from spending time with her loving family.

Arleine is survived by her children; Christine M. (Peter) McCollum, Patricia D. (Michael) Bittles, Daniel John (Deborah) Demien and Andrew R. Demien. She was the proud grandmother of five, Heather Christine Vernasco, Dawn Calhoon, Alexander Bittles, Dawson and Keegan Demien. She was also preceded in death by a grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor Street, South Bend, IN 46601. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Highland Cemetery of South Bend.
