Arthur Bruce Carpenter, Jr.

  A. Bruce Carpenter, Jr., 78 of South Bend passed away on Tuesday, April 5th in Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness, with his loving family by his side.

  Bruce was born in South Bend on August 25, 1943, in South Bend to the late Arthur Bruce and Betty M. (Eaton) Carpenter, Sr. Bruce married Carolyn S. Ranstead on August 3,1968, in South Bend. Carolyn survives along with their daughter, Kelly A. Carpenter of South Bend and their two sons, Kenneth B. (Melinda) Carpenter of New Carlisle and Kevin B. Carpenter of Port Royal, PA, along with their loving grandchildren, Baylee, Blake and Brayden. His sister, Mary R. Nemeth of Mishawaka, IN also survives.

  Bruce proudly served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Era. After serving our country, he worked over 30 years as a “Mail Handler” for the United States Post Office. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, helping others. He loved stock car racing, NASCAR, showing his boys how to work on cars, being with his loving family and especially the grandchildren and playing with Bristol, the family pet.

  The family would like memorial contribution to be made in Bruce’s name to: Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 2004 Ironwood Circle, Suite #140, South Bend, IN 46635.

  Visitation will be on Sunday, April 10th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at 23421 State Road 23. The funeral service will be on Monday, April 11th at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Clint Walker officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in South Bend.
