Audrey M. (Finley) Reed, 100, of LaPaz, passed into eternal rest on the morning of Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Walkerton due to an extended illness.
Audrey was born on July 8, 1924, in Walkerton, to the late John H. and Flossie A. (Thornburg) Finley. She grew up and spent her lifetime living in the area. On January 26, 1944, in Marshall County, she married James R. Reed. They spent over 51 years of marriage together until his passing in 1996. Along with her parents and husband, Audrey was preceded in death by her sons, Kerry L. Reed in 2015 and Craig A. Reed in 2022, and by her siblings, Georgia, Jane, Betty, John and Bill Finley.
Audrey is survived by her grandchildren, Brandon (Cathy) Reed, Craig A. (Shelly) Reed, Nikki (Jer) Barr, Eric (Emily) Reed and Jenny (Zach) Spaid, along with her great-grandchildren, Storm, Bridget, Bailey, Carly, Cadyn, Chazelynn, Caylee, Coral, Lilian, James, Cole, Carson and Morgan and great-great grandchildren, Alaina, Lincoln, Wrenlee, Hunter, Harmony, Oaklynn and Archie. She is also survived by her sister, Nellie Martin of Plymouth, and by her brother, Benjamin (Carol) Finley of Walkerton.
Audrey was the former owner and operator of the Paddle Wheel Restaurant in Walkerton. She was active in her community serving as a member of the Business Women’s Group and the American Legion Post 189 Ladies Auxiliary in Walkerton. In her spare time, she enjoyed jewelry crafts, reading a good book and tending to her garden. She especially loved to cook for her family and spend as much time with them as she could, which brought her the greatest joy in her life.
The family is following Audrey’s wishes to be cremated. There will be a celebration of Audrey’s life on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel”, 1216 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, IN 46574, where friends may visit with the family two hours prior. Audrey will be laid to rest in Grovertown Cemetery. Memorial contributions to honor Audrey may be made to Ronald McDonald House or to Heart-to-Heart Hospice.
