Carlos Arce Obituary

Carlos Arce, 78, of Walkerton, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, in Memorial Hospital due to an extended illness.

Carlos was born on July 22, 1945, in Mission, Texas, to the late Jose Luvin Arce and Maria Guadalupe Villegas.  His parents moved to Walkerton, Indiana around 1950.  Carlos graduated from Walkerton High School in 1964, he then went on to Indiana University where he graduated in 1968 with a degree in Chemistry.  After college, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served with the 11th Armored Cavalry, in Vietnam, Cambodia from 1969 to 1971.  Carlos valued this service highly and attained the rank of Sargent.  As a result of his bravery during his service, he earned two Purple Heart medals, a National Defense medal, a Vietnam Service medal, a Vietnam Campaign medal, a Good Conduct medal, a Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation medal, and Combat Infantry badge.  After the Army, he married the love of his life, Monica Kite, on October 13, 1972, in South Bend.  Together they raised a beautiful family.  Carlos worked at Accurate Castings in Laporte, where he retired after 38 years.  He had many hobbies that kept him busy.  He enjoyed tracking his genealogy and developed an interest in photography.  He liked spending time outdoors, fishing, traveling to National parks, and enjoyed watching all the different species of birds.  Carlos’ greatest joy was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow up.

Carlos is survived by his wife, Monica Arce of Walkerton, by his stepson Christopher S. Savoie of Newbury Park, CA., by his son Carlos J. (Yuliana) Arce of Elkhart, and by his daughter Catherine D. Hudnall of South Bend.   He was also the proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren, Ryan Savoie, Nicholas Savoie, Brenna Hodges, Ariana Arce, Alex Arce, Avery Arce, Avelina Arce, Olivia Arce Rivera, Elisa Arce Rivera, Colton Hudnall, Carter Hudnall, Dylan Hudnall, and Elaina Hudnall.  He was preceded in death by his parents, by his brother, Jose Arce, and by his son-in-law Chad Hudnall.
