Carolyn Mitchell Obituary

On Sunday, January 12, 2020, Carolyn June (Figg) Mitchell, passed away at the age of 88. Carolyn was born on May 20, 1931 to Gilbert and Violet (Harness) Singleton in Hamlet, Indiana. Her family was always most important in her life. Carolyn loved playing clarinet, taking painting classes and painting landscapes. She was an avid Notre Dame supporter and a member of the Notre Dame Club of Greensburg/ Uniontown. She was very proud of graduating from the House of James Beauty College in 1982 while raising her family and worked as a beautician and Manager of the
Robertson’s Department Store Salon. She also loved selling custom vans and was extremely good at it.
Carolyn was incredibly generous, proud and supportive of all of her children and   grandchildren. She was always by their side, physically or in prayer, as they faced challenges and celebrated special moments in their lives. She was their strongest advocate and fiercely fought off anyone who said or suggested anything negative about any of them. Her children did the same in return and would have done anything for their Mom - she was the greatest blessing of their lives and will live forever in their hearts.
Carolyn enjoyed taking pictures with family and friends on her little Kodak camera that she carried with her everywhere. In her vast photo collection, she has pictures of her family, friends, animals, Notre Dame football games, graduations, and pictures anytime she gathered with her family. Carolyn also loved scrapbooking and delighted in
preparing family memory books.
Carolyn also took great pride in her beautiful summer flowers and loved to bake her famous apple dumplings, spaghetti pie, zucchini bread, and chocolate chip cookies for her family. She also loved attending Ladies Red Hat Society events with her daughter Suzanne, line dancing, playing Uno with her grandchildren and keeping close ties with those she loved. Though she couldn’t always be with you in person, you knew she loved you through her cards, letters, emails, messages and telephone calls. She knew how to make everyone feel special in their own way.
On September 6, 1958, she married Rex A. Figg. They were married 33 years until his death in July 1992. On July 7, 1994, Carolyn married Huston O. Mitchell. They were married 20 years until his death in December 2014. Carolyn is survived by her children, Suzanne Figg, Mishawaka, Jeff (Laura) Figg, North Liberty, Dennis (Diane) Figg,
Scottdale, PA, Claudia (Joseph) Ambroziak, Port Orange, FL and Gayle (Mike) Liggett Price, Dayton, TN. Carolyn is also survived by five children through marriage, Sharie (Lee) VanNess, Ron (Sherry) Eagley, Gail Eagley, Chuck (Helena) Mitchell and Barb Moutelle.
Carolyn is survived by her brother, Jerry (Nancy) Singleton, North Liberty, sister-in-law, Kay Figg, Plymouth, and brother-in-law, Kenneth (Marilyn) Figg, South Bend, and grandchildren, Kirsty Figg, Caitlin Figg, Ashlea (Gregory) Kelley, Patrick (Sally) Kaizer, Nathan (Samantha) Ambroziak, Shelly (Dale) Jenkins and Ryan (Sarah) Liggett, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Carolyn 's favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3, verse 5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.
