Carolyn J. (Basham) Neiswender, 89, passed away in the early morning on Friday, September 22, 2023, due to an extended illness.
Carolyn was born on May 18, 1934 in Logansport, Indiana, to the late Charles R. Basham and Pearl F. (Basham) Chamberlain. She was preceded in death by William D. Surguy and Thomas Simon Jr., her former spouses. On June 21, 1980, in South Bend, she married Curtis D. Neiswender. They shared 34 years together until his passing on April 24, 2015. She retired from Teacher’s Credit Union as a Loan Clerk.
Carolyn is survived by her two daughters, Patricia A. Surguy of Wellston, MI and Marlene (Philip) Korenstra of Bristol, IN, by her son, William B. (Claudia) Surguy of Plymouth, and by her stepsons, Gregory D. (Peggy, preceded) Neiswender of Sacramento, CA, Kevin R. (Lorri) Neiswender of Maricopa, AZ, Michael C. (Carla) Neiswender of Fullerton, CA, Larry Simon and step-daughter, Terrie (Simon) Lisek. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and her husband, Carolyn is preceded in death by her brothers, Paul R. Basham and Donald E. Basham and by her stepson Daniel Neiswender.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, September 27th from 10:00 until Noon at the Hillside Missionary Church, 21567 W. Ireland Rd., South Bend. A funeral service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be held at Noon with Pastor Josh Fisher officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Sumption Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Hillside Missionary Church.
