Charles "Chuck" Stapke Obituary

Charles Anthony "Chuck" Stapke, 73, of Wakarusa, formerly of Highland, Indiana, passed away on October 12, 2025, at 9:40 p.m. surrounded by his loving wife and three children.

Born April 24, 1952, in Whiting, Indiana, to Charles and Janet (Shicotte) Stapke, Chuck grew up with a deep sense of loyalty, humor, and curiosity that shaped his life's work and relationships. After high school, he joined the United States Army and served honorably in Germany, an experience that fueled his discipline and gratitude. He earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University and embarked on a career that would influence thousands of students over nearly four decades as an adjunct professor of computer science at Indiana University Northwest. He was admired for his clarity, patience, and the gentle humor he brought to the classroom.

Chuck met the love of his life, Charlotte (Hill), on a slow-pitch softball diamond where a shared competitiveness and quick wit sparked a connection that never faded. They married six months later, on November 17, 1979, and spent 46 extraordinary years building a life rooted in love, laughter, and faith.

Family was everything to Chuck. He coached his children's teams and supported his grandchildren from the stands, always reminding them that the No. 1 goal of any game is to have fun. He believed competition should shape character, not ego. On and off the field, his influence spread through countless kids and parents who found in him a steady voice and a kind soul.

Chuck was an avid golfer, music lover, and storyteller who could strike up a conversation anywhere. He truly never knew a stranger. His humor was sharp, his heart open, and his curiosity endless.

In 1994, Chuck surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and became a pillar of his church community. He served as a youth-group leader, deacon, prayer team member, Bible-study leader with the Band of Brothers, and was known as a servant leader in every sense. He lived his faith by example and quiet strength, guiding others with the same steady hand he once used to coach young athletes.

Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Stapke of Wakarusa; his children Jennifer (Eric) Riddle, Charlie (Kelsey) Stapke, and Lizzie (Jay) Sheets, all of Wakarusa; and his eight cherished grandchildren: EJ, Janae, Macklen, Charlie, Hayden, Bodie, Kenna, and Baker. He is also survived by his mother, Janet Stapke of Mishawaka, and his sister, Sue (Bob) Witzke of Highland, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Stapke Sr., in 1990.

Those who knew Chuck will remember his laugh, his faith, and his unshakable belief that life was meant to be shared. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will be felt for generations.
