Craig Alan Moore, of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Monday, September 22, 2025, at the age of 73.
Craig was born on November 3, 1951, to the Dale Emerson and Violet Juanita (Stanley) Moore, in South Bend, where he went through school and remained a lifelong resident. From high school, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Mississippi State University majoring in landscaping and business. While enrolled in a work study program at the University, Craig experienced working in California and Colorado. In the beginning of his career, he moved to Virginia and worked in the Washington, D.C. area.
Craig was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1976, his faith led him to serve two years mission in Japan, which became dear to his heart. Upon his return to South Bend, he opened an LDS Bookstore to help members access scriptures and other church study books and materials. Through his life, he sang in choir and performed in musicals. His talent extended into dancing especially contra and ballroom styles. He became a member of the Nihon Friendship Club helping those who came here from Japan to transition and become familiar with American culture. On June 12, 1999, Craig married Kathleen (Koning) in the Chicago, Illinois Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ. In the last 10 years of their life together, he and Kathleen experienced wonderful tours/cruises to Israel, Jordan, Egypt, the Baltic countries, the Alpine countries, Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Germany. He loved to travel and looked forward to the next adventure.
While Craig was involved in his family business, Clean Seal on Ireland Road, he retired early. For the past 20 years, he focused his energy on his Home: landscaping, gardening, and renovating his parents’ family home and pool house. During the past 25 years, Craig served as a priest in the South Bend Ward, served weekly in the Chicago Temple, and served as a trainer in the Indianapolis Temple. Craig had a love of God’s children and focused his life serving others. He generously provided a place to live for homeless friends and church members, hosted and catered parties for friends, creating Asian and other ethnic dishes. Happiest working in the yard and garden, Craig’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Craig is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, along with their children, Benjamin (Stacey) Thueme of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Elijah Beck Thueme, Jeffrey Thueme (Yachi) and Sarah Thueme all of South Bend. He was the proud grandfather of Jacob, Kyle, Mason, Jonathon, Joseph, Lou and Beau Thueme and the great- grandfather of Grayson and Eliana Thueme. He is also survived by his brother, Chris (Faith) Moore of Lakeville and sister-in-law, Ann Moore of South Bend, along with his dear nieces, Sunshine, Kristin, Haley, and nephew, Grahm. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Dale, and his brother, Ron.
As per his wishes cremation is to take place. A memorial service honoring a life well lived will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ on Park Place in Mishawaka. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Craig's name to the Church's Missionary Fund.
