Damon Nichols, 83, of Walkerton, passed away on Sunday, February 13th, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.

  Damon was born in North Liberty to the late Bradley and Esther L. (Sheneman) Nichols on May 24th, 1938. On September 1st, 1962, in North Liberty, Damon married Janet L. (Spier) Zellers.   Damon Nichols, 83, of Walkerton, passed away on Sunday, February 13th, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.

  Damon was born in North Liberty to the late Bradley and Esther L. (Sheneman) Nichols on May 24th, 1938. On September 1st, 1962, in North Liberty, Damon married Janet L. (Spier) Zellers. Janet passed away on June 11th, 2020. He is survived by his daughters: Sherri (Todd) Pippenger of Bourbon, IN and Denise Dominiack of Lakeville, IN and his son, Greg (Lou) Zellers also of Lakeville, IN, along with 5 loving grandchildren, Greg D. Zellers, Jr., Carrie Adkins, Andy (Katie) Zellers, Chasity (Chris) Adkins and Nathan Nichols-Petersen and 19 great-grandchildren. Damon was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, parents, Bradley and Esther, sister, Nancy Louise Kaplon on December 27th, 2021 and 2 brothers, Ronnie and Terry Nichols

  For over 35 years, he was a truck driver for Ace Refrigeration and Redi Froz Trucking in South Bend. area. Damon was in the National Guard for 6 years and received an Honorable Discharge. He loved to go golfing, gardening, decorating for ALL holidays, teaching the grandkids about golf, and just being with his loving family. He was a member of the North Liberty American Legion Post 365 and the VFW Post 1954 both in North Liberty and South Bend Country Club.

  In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contribution to be made to the family of Damon at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 State Road 23, South Bend, IN 46614.

  Visitation for Damon will be on Friday, February 18, at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel” located at 1216 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. with the funeral service to begin at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Tim Davis officiating. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.
