Daniel R. Wakeley

   Daniel R. Wakeley, 59, of South Bend passed away on the evening of September 11th in his home surrounded by his loving family.

    Daniel was born on November 29, 1962, in Williamsport, PA to Dr. John H. and Esther S. (Reed) Wakeley. Upon graduating high school, Daniel went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army earning several distinguished awards and medals. He served his country until his retirement in 2010. On August 28, 2010, he married the love of his life, Debra L. Brogdon in South Bend. Daniel loved animals, traveling and was a skilled woodworker, yet his greatest joy came from being with family. Daniel had a kind and generous heart and frequently demonstrated random acts of kindness throughout his community. Daniel and his wife, Debra were active members of Southside Church of God.

    Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Debra, his daughter, Tara Wakeley, his siblings, Susan E. Hamilton of South Carolina, Sara D. (Coleman) Taylor of Rockwall, TX, and Joel R. (Carla) Wakeley of Germantown, TN. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Wakeley (September 4, 2014) along with his parents.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Daniel's honor to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnette Drive, South Bend, IN 46614 or St. Joseph County Human Society, 2606 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

   As per Daniel's wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service, located at 23421 State Road 23, South Bend, with Pastor Mary Stephens and Pastor Greg Jagger, officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. before the service.
