David L. Batz

David L. Batz, 79, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, in his residence following an extended illness.  “The thing of it was”

David was born on September 26, 1943, in South Bend, IN, to the late Robert E. and Majella June (Steele) Batz.  David proudly served his country in the Navy, during the Vietnam Era.  He was a retired truckdriver and a certified Ham radio operator.  When David was not on the road, he loved spending time with his family and numerous friends he had made over the years. 

David is survived by a daughter, Christina L. Batz, of South Bend, along with three sons, Charles E. (Cheryl) Steinhofer of South Bend, Damon S. (Melinda) Batz of Elkhart, and Eben I. Batz of South Bend.  He is also survived by his 9 loving grandchildren, James DeWitt, Joseph Mazurkiewicz, Alexis Perez, Hope Mazurkiewicz, Luis Ramirez, Spencer Steinhofer, Mariyah Steinhofer, Charliesa Steinhofer and Kayla (Derrick) Armstrong, along with 14 great-grandchildren. 

David’s wishes were to be cremated.  His family will have a celebration of David’s life at a later date.  Contributions in David’s name may be made to the Donor’s choice of charity.
