David James Obituary

David L. James, 72, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in his residence from an extended illness.

David was born on January 31, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio to the late Daniel E. and Dorothy H. (LaFaver) James. On April 30, 1993, in Mishawaka, he married Debra A. (Winkel) James who survives. David is also survived by his three daughters, Sahra (Jeff) Bennett of California, Melissa Ann Anderson of California, and Angela M. James of Arizona, by one son, Ricky Kia of Atlanta, GA and by three step-sons, David (Julie) Bowering of Cicero, IN, Jason (Heather) Bowering of Elkhart, IN and Justin (Beth) Bowering of South Bend and also by 10 loving grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Maryann Winkel, two brothers, Robert (Diane) James of South Bend, and Daniel (Kristen) James of Woodstock, IL, and by his brother-in-law, Mark Winkel. David is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Tarin Bowering, by a sister, Diane McCracken and by his father-in-law, Richard Winkel.

David proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was retired from Imagineering Enterprises as a Metal Finisher. He also worked at Per Mar Security Services for 5 years. David enjoyed camping in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed staying in to watch the History Channel and Sci-Fi Channel. David was happiest when he was spending time with all of his grandchildren and with his dog, Zuma, his pride and joy.

David’s family is following his wishes to be cremated with no service. Memorial contributions in honor of David can be made to Human Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545 and to Heart to Heart Hospice, 620 W. Edison Rd. #122, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
