Donald Tarnow Obituary

Donald G. Tarnow, of South Bend, passed away at the age of 95, on the morning of Monday, April 21st, 2025, in Port Charlotte, FL, due to a brief illness.

Donald was born on November 27, 1929, and raised in LaPorte, to the late Alfred O. and Bernice (Pagel) Tarnow. He was a graduate of LaPorte High School in the class of 1948.  He honorably joined the United States Marine Corp serving with commitment to his country during the Korean war era.  On April 5, 1953, in LaPorte, he married the love of his life, Marie A. Green, who preceded him in death on July 3, 2012.  Also preceding him in death was his sister, Dorothy Million, his daughter, Lori Plank and his granddaughter Lyn Kizer.

 Donald and Marie moved to the South Bend area where they remained to raise their family.  In 1988, Donald retired from AT&T after 34 years and 8 months of service as a construction supervisor.  He was a member of the Lydick United Methodist Church, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a member of Lydick Lyon’s Club.

Donald is survived by his daughters, Cheryl A. (Floyd) Poor, and Karen L. Tarnow, of South Bend, by his son, Dale R. (Tammy) Tarnow, of Evansville and by his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Scot) Ward, Nichole (Matt) Carpenter, Jason (Sarah) Barrett, Marci Gentry, Anthony (Kim) Hardiman, Angela (Andy) Harris, Dean (Regina) Kizer and fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Donald’s family is following his wishes to be cremated.  He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Mt. Pleasant cemetery at a later date.
