Dr. Tad Scott Lovan

Dr. Tad Scott Lovan, 65, of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Friday, August 1, 2025, while on vacation with his family.

Tad was born on July 29, 1960, in Goshen, Indiana to Norris and Elaine (Lampson) Lovan.  He remained a lifelong resident to the Northern Indiana area.  In 1988, he graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.  He had a passion for his work and eventually opened up his own practice.  He was a member of The American Dental Association (ADA), Indiana Dental Association (IDA), and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). 

Tad enjoyed being outdoors hiking trails or just grilling out.  He loved spending time with his children and grandkids whether it was going on family vacations or the special weekly Saturday brunches at Metro Diner.  He was also involved in Men’s Group meeting once or twice a month. 

Tad is survived by his father, Norris Lovan, of Goshen, his loving children, Caitlin Smith of New Carlisle, and Connor Lovan, of South Bend, along with their mother, Roberta Lovan.  He was the proud grandpa to Levi, Mila, and Zoey Smith.  He is also survived by his siblings, Kim Hatcher, of Mobile, Alabama, Tish Landrum, of Evergreen, Colorado, Kip Lovan, of Goshen, and Tod Lovan, of Elkhart.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Lovan.

The family has followed Tad’s wishes to be cremated.  There will be a memorial service to celebrate Tad’s life at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 S. R. 23, South Bend, IN 46614, where friends may visit with the family two hours prior to service time.  Pastor Jim Morris will be officiating the service. 

Tad was passionate about education and learning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, to honor Tad, may be made to his grandchildren's college fund in C/O Caitlin Smith.  Contributions can be mailed to the funeral home address: 23421 S. R. 23,  South Bend, IN  46614.
