Frank P. Tirotta Sr., 89, of South Bend, passed away in the company of his loving family during the early evening hours of October 31st at home. Frank was born in South Bend to Perry and Lena (Sainato) Tirotta on October 8, 1933. After high school he went on to proudly serve in the United States Army. On April 11, 1953, in South Bend, he married the love of his life, Virginia Leodanski. He enjoyed playing pool, traveling, fishing, golfing, and being the number one fan of any of his children or grandchildren during their sporting events. Frank’s greatest joy and accomplishments came in the form of his loving family, from the Sunday dinners with the whole family or just the simple times when it was a few, he loved everything about them. His legacy is a deep one. He was Dad, Papa, favorite Uncle, the patriarch of the family. A man who knew a little about everything.
Frank is survived by his loving children, Diane Whitfield, Roxanne (Randy) Bennett and Joseph (Tammy) Tirotta all of South Bend, Paul Tirotta of Mishawaka, Perry (Jodi) Tirotta of Granger and Michael (Stacy) Tirotta of South Bend. He was the proud grandpa of 18, Matthew (Kelly) Whitfield, Bradley Whitfield, Sara (Brent) Newman, Crystal (Scott) Zavitz, Amanda (Josh) Bennett, Nicole (Chad) Ladyga, Kyle (Stephanie), Aaron (Rachel) and Kristen Tirotta, Olivia Peyla, Cameron Cavinder, Dominick, Nicholas , Anthony, Isabella, and Angelina Tirotta, and Riley and Jordan Tirotta, and the great grandfather of 16; Nathan, Katelyn, Grace, and James Whitfield, Tanner and Mila Newman, Brytney Bennett, Caden and Sydney Kenton, Destiny Bennett, Brody Zavitz, Maelyn and Hiltyn Ladyga, Ashton and Lakelynn Smith, and Demi Tirotta and the great-great grandfather of 2, Malani Taylor and Tatum Willis. He is also survived 2 brothers, Joseph and Paul “Skip” Tirotta both of South Bend, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia, a son, Frank Tirotta Jr., his parents, his siblings, Judith, Rose, Mary, Sandy, Barbara, Angela “Jean”, Edith, Katherine, Teresa “Terri”, Perry “Pete” and Michael.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, November 6th from 1:00 until 8:00pm in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 State Road 23. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 10:30am Monday, November 7th. He will be laid to rest in the Highland Cemetery of South Bend.
