Garford (“Mac”) B. Mauk, 90, of South Bend, passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in his home from an extended illness.
Garford was born on April 4, 1933, in Greenville, Illinois to the late Elisha and Helen (Johnson) Mauk. He was a tool and die maker for 30 years at Bendix Corporation, from where he eventually retired. He owned and operated Mac’s Trailer Repair for over fifteen years buying, repairing and selling RVs. In his later years he spent much of his time collecting, resurrecting and showing “hit-and-miss” antique engines. Garford was socially active as well. He was a founding charter member of the Greene Township Lions Club and a member of the Mason Lodge in South Bend. He also enjoyed going to the Curve Café where he found good food and conversation.
On April 4, 2010, in South Bend, he married Diane G. (Rasor) Mauk, who survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Carolyn (Michael) Dyszkiewicz of South Bend, by his two sons, Gregory (Susan) Mauk of Fremont, IN and David (Lorraine) Mauk of North Liberty, by three stepdaughters, Julie (Rich) Nelson of California, Vicki Horvath of South Bend, Susanne Hiatt of South Bend, by three stepsons, Steven Thompson of South Bend, Tim (Patty) Thompson of Elkhart, Ryan (Tina) Thompson of South Bend and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Maralee (Cave) Mauk, second wife Carol (Horvath) Mauk and brothers, Max Mauk and Russell Mauk.
Garford’s family is following his wishes to be cremated with no service. In honor of Garford, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46614 and to Greene Township Lions Club, 24600 Roosevelt Road, South Bend, IN 46614.
