Gary E. Trost

Gary Edward Trost, 74, of Walkerton, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

He was born on January 16, 1951, in Walkerton, to Glenn and Evelyn (White) Trost.

Gary graduated from John Glenn High School in 1969.  He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 1973.  He continued his education by obtaining a degree in nursing and later a master’s degree in guidance and counseling.  He spent his professional life in the service to others as a teacher, nurse and a high school guidance counselor. 

Gary loved doing woodworking making pens, doing small construction projects, spending time with his family and family pets, Murphy and Molly, and supporting Notre Dame football. 

On June 15, 1991, in Laporte, Indiana, he married Carolyn (Mann) Trost who survives.

He will be forever cherished and remembered by his five children; Nikki (Ben) Brock of Lisle, Illinois, Nathan (Melissa) Trost, of San Diego, California, Kelli Barnes, of Walkerton, Courtenay Barnes (Jared Cornell) of Brooklyn, New York, and Ryan Nagle, of Dillon, Colorado.  He leaves behind eight grandchildren: Viviene Barnes-Tucker (Joe Randall), Hanna Oberle (Eric Henry), Nikolas Domonte, Ethan Brock, Kate Brock, Owen Brock, Ezra Barnes-Cornell, and Jackson Trost. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Trost, of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn Trost, his father Glenn Trost, and father-in-law, Adam Mann.

The family is following Gary’s wishes to be cremated.  There will be a memorial visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home-Walkerton Chapel, 1216 Roosevelt Rd., Walkerton, IN 46574.  A church service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Walkerton Community Church (formerly United Methodist Church), 1000 Georgia St., Walkerton, IN  46574.
