Gerald Kazmierczak Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” A. Kazmierczak, 96, passed away on March 11, 2024, at Wellbrooke Assisted Living Facility.  He was born on December 14, 1927, to Stanley and Rose (Grzeskowiak).  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Stanley, Bernard, and Richard.

Jerry served in the U.S. Army from May 9, 1946 to October 10, 1947, as well as the U. S. Navy Reserve from January 15, 1951 to January 14, 1955.  He was employed by the City of South Bend for 33 years, serving on the South Bend Fire Department from 1955-1988.

He was a lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana.  On Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1953, he married Joan “Judy” Kominowski, (d. December 2006).  They raised three children, John (Laurie) Kazmierczak of Melbourne, Florida, Sharon (Larry) Dippel of Summerfield, North Carolina, and Bill (Cathy) Kazmierczak of South Bend, Indiana.  Jerry was very proud of his ten grandchildren: Jason (Joni) Kazmierczak, Jeremy (Kelly) Kazmierczak, Erin (Ian) Barabas, Angela (Jake) Harris, Nicholas (Megan) Dippel, Andrew Dippel, Ashley (Justin) Mitchell, Evan Dippel, Michael (Sarah) Kazmierczak, and Samantha Kazmierczak, as well as his nine great-grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to thank Wellbrooke of South Bend and Heartland Hospice for the exceptional care given to Jerry.

Additionally, special appreciation is extended to Anatasia Chibucos and Jeongwoo Kim, students from Notre Dame University, who brightened Jerry’s Sunday with their weekly visits.

As per Jerry’s request, there will be no visitation.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.
