Guadalupe Garcia, 83, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Guadalupe was born on February 21, 1940, in Elsa, Texas to the late Victor and Flora (Olivares) Vega, Sr. She moved to South Bend, Indiana when she was a teenager and graduated from Washington High School in 1959. In September of 1961, in South Bend, she married Armando Garcia. She retired from the University of Notre Dame, as director of St. Michaels Laundry in 1999; and later from the South Bend Community School Corporation’s Bilingual Department. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Guadalupe is survived by her husband, Armando Garcia of South Bend, her son, Raymond P. Garcia Sr. of Goshen, IN, a stepdaughter, Nicole Elena (Brandon) Groves of Plymouth, IN, and 5 loving grandchildren, Benjamin Cantu, Raymond P. Garcia, Jr., Marcos Armando Garcia, Justin Schock, and Shaween Marie. She is also survived by her brothers, Paul (Dolores) Vega of Fort Worth, TX, Alberto (Mary Lou) Vega of South Bend, IN, Flavio (Rita) Vega of Schererville, IN, Victor Vega of Mexico City, Mexico, a half-brother, Victor Vega and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lydia Cantu.
Guadalupe’s wishes were to be cremated. There is a Celebration of Guadalupe's Life at 6:00 P.M., Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home "Southwest Chapel", 23421 State Road 23, South Bend, IN 46614, where friends may call from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
