Hal W. Ort, 75, of North Liberty, Indiana, passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, in his home with his loving family by his side.
Hal was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 2, 1949, to the late John and Eleanor (Harmon) Ort. He was raised on his family’s dairy farm where he learned a life of rewards in hard work early on.
On June 6, 1970, Hal married his high school sweetheart, Linda Shreve, in Sumption Prairie Church, where they were both raised attending. In their 54 years together they raised two daughters, Tami L. Freitag, of South Bend, and Tricia A. (Brad) Rosendaul of Noblesville. They are proud grandparents to their beautiful grandchildren, Mallorie and Meghan Freitag and Liam and Finn Rosendaul, who helped with grandpa’s care and made him laugh. A special thank you to his loving nephews, Eddie and Jeff Ort for all their support, along with his sister, Laura (Ken) Bogucki and his brother, Gary (Sandy) Ort, and his in-laws, Chris and Helen Shreve and Jack and Patty Shreve. Hal loved the family gatherings with all of them.
Hal loved sports, especially Notre Dame, where he was an usher for 10 years. He was also a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He enjoyed many years of coaching basketball with his buddy, Tom Kurzhal. He also enjoyed attending Indiana Pacer games with his son-in-law, Brad.
A cremation will take place per Hal’s wishes. A family service will be held at a later date.
A special thank you to Dunes Hospice and all of their angel nurses for the comfortable care they gave him.
The HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” and Cremation Service is handling arrangements and extends our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to all of the Ort family and friends.
