Hershel L. “Rob” Newman, 78, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, May 30th.
Rob was born in Joplin, Missouri on October 28, 1946 to Ray and Jerlean (Batson) Newman. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1970. He worked in the telecommunication and constructions fields prior to his retirement. On May 31, 1983 he married Sheryl (Hayes) Newman in Denver, Colorado. They lived in the Denver area from 1980 until 1984, when they returned to the Michiana area. They enjoyed traveling, arts and crafts, and watching the Broncos. Rob enjoyed celebrations and holidays, yet his greatest joy came from helping family and friends with their various home projects. He was a member of American Legion Post 50 in South Bend.
Rob is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl and his children, Erica Campbell of Mishawaka, Shelley Mclean, Robert Newman and Scott Ricks all of South Bend. He was the proud grandfather of Dustin Newman, Brittany (AJ) Scocco, Raelynn (Devon) Lumpkin, Jared (Bailey) Campbell, Kylie (Jayme) Andre, and Luke (Chantel Bland) Campbell along with 9 great grandchildren. Rob is also survived by his siblings, Bev and Raymond.
A memorial visitation in honor of Rob will be held at the De Amicis Club 302 W 11th St, Mishawaka, IN 46544, on Thursday, June 5th from 4:00 until 8:30pm.
