Jack LeRoy Temple, 66, of South Bend, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, September 11 at home with his loving family by his side.
Jack was born in South Bend on July 25, 1959, to James Robert and Julia Joan (Mazlo) Temple. He graduated from Penn High School, where he especially enjoyed his friends and time on the football team. Jack began his career as a transmission specialist, where he became an expert in his field and set the standard for hard work. Always seeking to help others, Jack served as a volunteer firefighter, including as chief, in Harris Township. Jack had a love of cars and racing, attending numerous race events, tractor pulls, and participating in lawnmower tractor racing. He also had a great passion for music and enjoyed jamming out whether at home or attending live concerts. He loved recreational shooting and aviation, taking yearly trips to AirVenture in Oshkosh.
Jack’s greatest joy came from spending time with friends and family. He devoted his life to raising his four children and was deeply proud of the people they’ve become.
Jack is survived by his children, Lucas (Rachel) Temple, Audrey (Thomas) Thorstad, Jack Oliver (James) Temple, and Joseph (Victoria) Temple. He was the proud grandfather of five, Laila Temple, Rose Temple, and Cora, Theodore, and baby Thorstad. He is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Nielsen, James Temple, and Tina Asmus.
Visitation will begin at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 16 at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 S.R. 23, South Bend, IN 46614. A service celebrating Jack’s life will begin at 1:00pm in the funeral home following the visitation. He will be laid to rest at Sumption Prairie Cemetery of South Bend.
