James S. Taylor

  James S. Taylor, 75, of South Bend passed away at the Center for Hospice Care on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

  Jim was born June 25, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age 3, his family moved to South Bend. Jim graduated from the Old Washington Clay High School in 1964. He served his country in the Army National Guard.

  In 1967, Jim met Pat on a blind date and they married February 22, 1969. He had married the love of his life, and always said, “if Pat’s happy, I’m happy.” They later had two of the most wonderful children a parent could ask for.

 Jim worked for NIPSCO for 38 years, retiring from the Natural Gas Storage Facility in 2005.

  In 2000, Jim and Pat built the house of their dreams (designed by Pat). And from the moment they moved in a strong friendship developed with what would become his brother/friend, Luther.

  Jim was a NASCAR fan and started taking Nancy and Jim to races in Michigan at the ages of 8 and 6, and continuing for many years. He and Nancy traveled the country from one end to the other and back again seeing races. The last one being this past July. They were truly best father/daughter buddies. He also loved going on bus trips to see the Cubs with his brother Tim, the last trip included their sons.

  Jim was very proud of his son’s 22 years serving with the South Bend Police Department, knowing he continues to serve with the Pokegon Band Tribal Police.

  Jim is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Pat, their children, Nancy Twesme of New Carlisle and Jim (Megan) Taylor both of New Carlisle. He was the proud grandfather of 3, Ash Twesme, Gavin Taylor and Riley Sites. He is also survived by his siblings, Dixie (Tony) Humphrey of Prescot, AZ, Tim (Deb) Taylor of South Bend, and Beth (Larry) Kline also of South Bend, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Elizabeth Taylor, brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Shelly Taylor, his in-laws, William and Mary Kierein, sister-in-law, Joan Eash and son-in-law, Jeff Twesme.

  Jim loved his children and grandchildren more than life itself and will be forever missed.

  It was Jim’s wish to donate his remains to IU School of Medicine Education Program of Indianapolis.

  A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 27th from 5:00 until 7:00pm in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 State Rd. 23, South Bend.
