Janet Davis Obituary

“You are our sunshine, our only sunshine.”

Janet Sue Davis departed her earthly body on Sunday at 3:15pm August 29th, 2021, surrounded by her loving family & her canine companion, Molly. She was born October 20th, 1940 in Wellston Ohio to the late Edgar & Evelyn Rollins.

She married the love of her life, Elwin Charles Davis, on November 10, 1962 in South Bend, Indiana after a swift engagement. They would be celebrating 59 years of marriage together later this year- a true symbol of lifetime love & the commitment of the vows they made to each other on their wedding day.

Janet, more commonly referred to as “Nanny” by her grandchildren & great grandchildren, was one of a kind & loved by all who met her. She enjoyed traveling with her family & anyone who traveled with her will recall listening to classic country on the radio & her always supplying Bugles & Pepsi as a road trip snack. Cooking & baking for her family was her own personal way of showing her astounding love for her family. She spent many hours in her kitchen teaching her grandchildren recipes for her famous apple pie & homemade noodles. She especially loved preparing homemade meals for birthdays & holidays & had a hard time letting everyone else help her. She was an active gardener & bird watcher & especially loved watching hummingbirds come to her feeders. Most of all, she enjoyed the company of her family, friends, & her dog. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings as the conversations usually turned funny stories & the belly laughs were plenty. You could occasionally catch her having small dance parties with her grandchildren & great grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Davis; her sister Doris (Mel) Ramsey; Her sister in law, Grace Rollins; Her children Jeri (Paul) Gilb; Jacki (Joseph) Beath; Charlie (Beth) Davis; & Scott Davis; her furbaby, Molly; Her Grandchildren Mitchell (Annalise Aakhus); Taylor (Shannon Ellering); Emily (Henry Casillas); Zachary (Megan) Gilb; Michael Beath; Brandon Potter (SSgt Marine Corps);  Jacob (Tiffany) Gilb; Jarod (Brooke) Gilb; Patrick Beath; her Great Grandchildren Brendon Gilb; Kaleb Gilb; Abe Gilb; Oakley Michael; Lakin Gilb; Indy Gilb; & Baby Boy Gilb on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother Jack Rollins, & her daughter, Kimberly Davis.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to hospice chaplain, Kenneth Robinson, & hospice nurse, Kari Copehaver, RN. In memory of Janet, the family asks for donations to Heart to Heart Hospice: 620 W. Edison Suite 122 Mishawaka, IN 46545.
