Jerry D. Mayfield

Jerry D. Mayfield, 83, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, June 6th.

Jerry was born in South Bend on October 30, 1941, to Calvis L. and Emma VanHulle Mayfield. A lifelong area resident, Jerry married his first wife, Helen Diane Reed on February 16, 1963. They shared just over 14 years together before her passing on August 4, 1977. Jerry was blessed to find love again and married Patricia Marie Higgins on December 16, 1978. He was the owner and operator of Mayfield Machine Shop until his retirement. Jerry was a member of the Lydick Lions Club. He loved tinkering on cars and going to car shows. He enjoyed pottery and artwork, yet his greatest joy came from spending time with his loving family.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Mayfield, along with his children, Rebecca L. (William) Harvey of Bourbon, Indiana, David W. (Florence) Mayfield and Gary L. Mayfield both of South Bend, Indiana. He was the proud grandfather of Timothy (Sarah) Harvey, Matthew Harvey, Stuart Mayfield and Tyler Mayfield, and the great-grandfather of 4. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Rodney (Joan) Mayfield of New Carlisle, Indiana and his Sister-in-law Josephine Mayfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Calvis Jr. and Robert.

Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 8:00pm on Thursday, June 12th, at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 SR 23 South Bend. A service will celebrate Jerry’s life on Friday June 13th, at 11:00 in the funeral chapel with Rev Mark Cottrill officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery of South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to either Traditions Health Hospice or your local Alzheimer’s organization.
