Jewel (Parks) Platz

Jewel Platz, 90, of Walkerton, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, January 26th.

Jewel was born to Cleve and Sarah (Sweeney) Parks on September 14, 1934, in Breathitt County, Kentucky. She married the love of her life, Russell E. Platz, in Walkerton on May 21, 1955. She worked many years as a Qualified Medication Aid. Jewel enjoyed working through word searches, talking walks, bird watching and taking rides in the car with her sister Mary Jo. Her greatest joy was being in the company of her loving family.

Jewel is survived by her loving husband, Russell along with their children, Patricia Koch, Shelly Platz (Craig) and Gail Platz, all of Walkerton. She was the proud grandma of Heather, Le Anne, Chad, and Mitch, great grandma of Gabriel, Lexia, Carson, Payton, Brantly and Ben, and the great-great grandma of Atalie. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Jo Golubski of Walkerton. She was preceded in death by a son, David L. Platz, and daughter-in-law, Dona Platz, along with several brothers and sisters.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 31, from 4 pm until 8 pm in the Presbyterian Church, located at 512 Georgia Street Walkerton, IN. A funeral service celebrating Jewel’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at 11am, in the church with Pastor Tim Davis officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Westlawn Cemetery of North Liberty. Memorial contributions may be made in Jewel’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
