Joyce Hock Obituary

Joyce Lee Hock-Stewart, 94, passed away Saturday, March 8th surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 28th, 1930, to the late Elmer R. Hair and Lucille (Funk) Hair.  She was proud of her southern roots both in Kentucky and in Corydon and New Amsterdam Indiana.  Her family moved to Miami, Florida when she was a child.  She spent many nights on the beach with friends where she enjoyed clam bakes.  She moved at 18 years of age to South Bend, Indiana and met her husband Thomas R Hock, marrying on May 25th, 1950.   After raising her children, she worked as an inspector at the former Dutron Corporation for 15 years.  She enjoyed many happy years with Thomas camping and traveling the United States.    Thomas passed on October 10th, 1980.

She met her second husband Maurice Stewart through mutual friends while bowling.  Joyce and Maurice were together for 35 years.

Joyce loved an adventure, traveling whenever she could.  Her travels included the beaches of Florida to the bowling alleys of Indiana and back to the Casinos in Michigan or Indiana.  She loved her football with Notre Dame as her favorite college team.

Her most beloved activity was being with her family especially Christmas gatherings.  They held special memories for her.

Joyce was a former member of Eagles Lodge #435, Moose Lodge 58 and member of Turners.  One of her proudest moments was being inducted into the Daughters of American Revolution in June 2007, the Hoosier Elm Chapter, Corydon, Indiana.

Joyce is survived by 2 daughters, Linda (Late Jerome) Sloma, Rhonda (Michael) Critchlow, and 1 son Christoper (Terri) Hock.  Proceeding her death is her son and daughter-in-law Thomas (Esther) Hock, and her only sibling and sister-in-law Richard (Margie) Hair.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to 8 grandchildren Jerome (Adrien) Sloma, Jeffery (Amanda) Sloma, Joseph (Jamie) Sloma, Jessica Sloma, Richard (Denise) Hock, Jason (Olivia) Critchlow, Nicole (William) Wilkie, Taylor (Jason) Hock.  2 step-children Kris VanCamp and Todd VanCamp.  Denise and Richard were her special angels giving her loving and compassionate care.

She has 15 great-grandchildren and 2- step great grandchildren.  She loved each and every one of her children, grand-children and greats with a passion that kept her moving in this life.  Her gentleness and sweetness will be greatly missed.

Proverbs 31:25: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."

We would like to express our gratitude to Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, Indiana and Heartland Hospice for providing a loving, safe and warm environment.
