Judith A. (Cover) McGovern

          Judith A. ‘Judy’ McGovern, 83, of Walkerton, passed away on January 8th in her home surrounded by her loving family.

            Judy was born in LaPorte, Indiana on May 30, 1938, to Wayne L. and Lois D. (Wilcox) Cover, and was a lifelong resident of Walkerton. She was a graduate of Walkerton High School, Class of 1956. She also served on the Queen’s Court for the Walkerton Centennial Celebration in 1956. On October 12, 1957, she married the love of her life, John T. McGovern, Jr., they shared 64 years together. She was an active lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Walkerton where she served in the Little Angels Daycare, sang in the choir, and served as an usher. She also served as a Den mother for the local Cub Scouts.  She was an active member of the WVFD Ladies auxiliary and served as a member of the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson library board.  When not working, she enjoyed doing puzzles, cross stitch, and working in her garden.  But her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.

    Judy is survived by her loving husband, John, along with their children; Kristi L. Norton of Indianapolis, IN, Patrick S. (Christina) McGovern of South Bend, and Kelly B. McGovern of Walkerton. She was the proud grandmother of three, Skyler (Erin) Norton, Zane (Cristina) Norton and Andrew McGovern, and the great grandmother of Sybil and Ellis Norton. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Danny L. Cover.

          Friends may visit with John and all of Judy’s family on Thursday, January 13th from 4:00 until 8:00PM in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 1216 Roosevelt Rd., Walkerton, and one hour prior to the service in the church. A service celebrating Judith’s life will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, January 14th in the Walkerton United Methodist Church, 1000 Georgia St. Walkerton with Pastor Denny Soule officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Alzheimer’s Association of Indiana, P.O.
