Kenneth O. Merritt, 80, of Walkerton, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in his home from an extended illness.
Kenneth was born on November 18, 1942, in Lebanon, Indiana, to the late Aaron A. & Dortha M. (Belcher) Merritt. On October 8, 2016, in South Bend, he married Shirley D. (Martin) Merritt who survives. Along with his wife, Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Sheyanne R. Merritt of Plymouth, and by two sons, Briar A. Merritt of Plymouth, and Kenneth “Nuke” Merritt of Markle, IN. He is also survived by his two step daughters, Kim (Bill) Graham of Walkerton, and Dawn (Jay) Rensberger of Walkerton, and by a step son, Robert D. (Crystal) Garvin of Silver Springs, FL, along with 21 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and by two sisters, Sandy (Chuck) Nail of Arcadia, Indiana, and Beverly (Daniel) Henderson of Whiteland, Indiana. Kenneth is preceded in death by his brothers, Berry Merritt and Steve Merritt.
Kenneth served his country in the United States Army. He was retired as a scale operator from OmniSource Corporation in Bourbon, Indiana. Kenneth enjoyed being outside working in his yard and using his hands for woodworking. When Kenneth wanted to relax, he would sit to enjoy a good ole Western movie. Kenneth enjoyed just spending time with his loving family and grandchildren the most.
Kenneth’s family is following his wishes to be cremated. There will be a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Faith Baptist Church, 12987 Peach Road, Plymouth, IN 46563, with burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton.
