Lavall "Richard" Lane Obituary

    Lavall “Richard” Lane 84, of Niles Michigan, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 18th at home surrounded by his loving family. 

    Richard was born on August 22, 1939, in South Bend to Lavall L. and Dorothy (Luther) Lane. After high school, he proudly served his county in United States Army until his honorable discharge. Richard married the love of his life, Sharron K Henry in South Bend on January 15, 1966. He is a retired truck driver, working many years for Scot-Lad Foods. He was an active member of the Teamsters Union Local 364. He continued to hold his title of Ham Radio Operator, with his call letters KC8MB. He was the originator of the band “Country Pride” from 1981 to 2005 with duties ranging from running the light and sound system to playing rhythm guitar. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife in their RV, building and woodworking and anything electrical or mechanical.    

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sharron K Lane, along with their children; Diana (Lee) Thompson of Milton, Florida, Jean (Doug) Blakely of South Bend, Richard (Pam) Lane of Elkhart, Indiana and Tammie K. (Robert) Carpenter South Bend, Indiana. He was the proud grandfather of numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Lane of Niles, Michigan and a sister Patsy Meade of Niles Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters and 3 brothers. 

     As be his wishes cremation is to take place. A Celebration Richard’s life will be held on what would have been his 85th birthday, August 22nd, from 4:00 until 6:00pm in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 SR 23, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to either Alzheimer’s Association or Heartland Hospice.
