Marvin E. Oakley

Marvin E. Oakley, 73, of South Bend passed away on Saturday September 6th at 5:20 AM in his residence after an extended illness with his loving family at his side.

He was born on December 5, 1940 in Corydon, KY to Hester and Viola (Nelson) Oakley.

On August 12, 1961 in Shawneetown, IL he married the former Joan Trent, who survives. He has resided in the Michiana area since 1965, coming from Evansville, IN.

Marvin was a US Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam Era. After his service, he worked as a General Manager at Dietzgen Engineering Company. He retired from Bendix Corporation in South Bend and Mansville Corporation in Elkhart where he worked as a supervisor. 

Marvin is also survived by two sons; Charles M. (Patricia) Oakley of Osceola, IN and Timothy W. (Stephanie) Oakley of South Bend, five step-sisters, two step-brothers, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; Dorothy Wallace and Ida Lea Delmonico, and one brother; Henry Oakley.

Marvin loved baseball, football, and was an avid bowler and golfer. He loved all sports. He also loved jigsaw puzzles, being with his family, and he was very active with East Side Little League, where he helped coach. He was a member of the American Legion Post 303 as well.

Marv was a very caring and loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his wonderful and loving family. He was always there to help others in need and never gave it a second thought.

There will be no visitation at this time. A private family Memorial Service will take place at a later date. Marvin’s wishes were to be cremated and his loving family has honored those withes. Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery at a later date.

The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to East Side Little League located at P.O. Box 6112 South Bend, IN 46660.
