Mary Jo (Heighway) Cornell

  Mary Jo (Heighway) Cornell, 70 of South Bend passed away following an extended illness at Memorial Hospital in South Bend on Friday, December 10th, 2021.

  Mary Jo was born in South Bend to the late Clinton L. and Mary F. (Bassat) Heighway on March 20, 1951.

  On November 3, 1972, in South Bend, she married Robert (Rocky) A. Cornell. Rocky survives along with their daughter, Barbie J. (Adrian) Benavides of Indianapolis, IN and sons: Robert A. (Michele) Cornell, Jr., of South Bend and Jeffrey W. (Chantelle) Cornell of Niles, MI, thirteen (13) grandchildren, Tye, Amiyah, Jeffrey, Emmika, Nathan, Luis, Mateo, Robert, David, Mandy, Lisa, Zach, Hunter and four (4) great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Maxton, Zyler, Casey and Mary Jo's sister, Hazel A. Williams of South Bend. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Tina M. Cornell, sons, Gerald L. and Gregory B. Cornell and sister, Estelle Boyd and brothers, Robert, Raymond and Richard Heighway.

  Mary Jo was an at home mother and devoted her time to her children, husband and grandchildren. She loved her family with all of her heart and anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her, knew she accepted you into the family and treated you as one of her own. She enjoyed spending time with her family, car rides with her husband, cherry slurpees and collecting wind chimes.

  Memorial contributions may be made to the family at 12328 Huntington Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46229 to help defray the funeral costs for the Cornell family.

  Cremation will take place and no services are planned at this time.
